Lombardy: travel guide

The Lombardy region contains some of Lake Garda's most important tourist destinations, all of which are in the province of Brescia. The Lombardy shore of the lake, together with the Veneto shore, is actually the most extensive in terms of area, particularly when compared to the Trentino Alto Adige section. There are therefore numerous destinations in Garda Lombardia, including internationally renowned comunes like Sirmione and Desenzano del Garda.

Famous for its thermal spas, the Caves of Catullus and the Scaligero Castle - considered one of the most stunning examples of lakeside fortifications - Sirmione is probably Lake Garda's best-known town, partly thanks to the tourists who every year choose to stay in the area's many campsites and resorts. While Sirmione is a centre of excellence on the Lombardy shore of Lake Garda, there's another comune in Brescia province that's equally attractive: Desenzano del Garda's charms are matched only by the enormous opportunities for relaxation and sports activities.
